Issues

Here’s a short list of some of the local issues most important to us.  In our view, none of these are partisan in nature:

  • Continue to support the excellent work of our Highway Superintendent and his professional crew, keeping our roads well maintained and clear
  • A modest, stable town budget that carefully spends each tax dollar collected from residents
  • Professional, balanced Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals that fairly apply the law to every application
  • A Town Board that thoughtfully weighs competing priorities to keep what we love about Ghent while responding to the demands of the future
  • Supporting climate initiatives
  • Recreation and community
    • Affordable, engaging summer camp for our kids—
    • West Ghent Community Center improvements
    • Support for the development of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail
    • Community engagement through enhanced communication and hosting events like Ghent Community Day
  • Services for our residents
    • The Ghent Food Pantry is a non-profit that serves community members who are food-insecure.  We support the Town’s longtime commitment to underwriting a number of the Pantry’s ongoing expenses, including providing space for their inventory and services and the electricity to maintain the operations, at no cost.
    • Public Transportation for Ghent, Chatham and Hudson
    • Department for the Aging
  • Housing that’s affordable
  • Economic development that is aligned with our town’s Comprehensive Plan
